Now that she can identify a boy and a girl, Lily has been learning the difference between a lady and a man. Last night Lily and I were in the hall by our door getting ready to go for a walk, and a neighbour three doors down that we know came out of his apartment. I waved, he waved, and I asked Lily if she was going to say hi. She looked down the hall, then turned her back on our neighbour, looked at me knowingly, and said with conviction, "lady". As his laugh echoed down the hallway, I realized she'd said it just loud enough for him to hear.
Today she has successfully called two men lady while the person in question was still within earshot. But to be fair, one of them was sporting a decidedly feminine hairdo.
