Sto Lat! dla Babci

Practicing "Sto Lat" from Krista Eileen on Vimeo.

Well, not so much practicing as Lily just belting it out as if it hasn't been months and months since we'd sung it. Smart cookie.

in Polish

Lukasz asked for more play-doh this morning, and I asked him what the magic word was. Then I told him that in Polish, please is prosze. So he said, "prosze".

Then Lily piped up, "But in real Polish, prosze means 'here you go' and thank-you is dziekuje." My little smart cookie. :)

A sneeze and a Polish word, or two

Lily sneezed earlier, and out of habit, I said, "Bless you". (It's funny, I've always said Gesundheit!, but Tom says Bless you and I guess it's one of those times where one of us adopts the others' phrase).

Lily's response to me was, "Can you say Na zdrรณwko?"

It's great to hear a bit of her Polish vocabulary spring up every now and then.

Learning Polish

Tatus and I were talking earlier today about the kids' abilities to learn Polish. They both know a bit, Lukasz is already saying Czesc, but without it being spoken in the home we wonder if they will be able to learn it fluently.

Not long after that, Lukasz went trundling by me pushing a toy shopping cart filled with fruit and veggies. One had fallen out, and Lily picked it up, put it back in the cart, and said "prosze" (please, as in "Please have this").

Do-bla-notes

Tatus and I were just saying "good night" to you, and Tatus switched it up a bit by saying "good night" in Polish. Then he asked you to say "dobranoc" (sounds like do-bra-notes with a rolled "r") to him. I fully expected you to say your trademark "no", but instead you looked at him for about 10 seconds and then slowly said, "do-bla-notes".

SO cute. :)
