Happy Fathers Day Tatus!!!!

My plan for Fathers Day:

-Let Tom sleep in
-Make him a yummy coffee and omelet for breakfast
-Head out to a provincial park for an afternoon of beach fun and a picnic

I pictured the park we were going to go to as being similar to an Ontario provincial park my family and I used to go to: Awenda. We'd hike a kilometer or so to the fourth and farthest beach from the parking lot, carrying all the picnic and beach gear. I vividly remember my dad walking with the cooler balanced on one shoulder. My brothers and I would swim and build sand castles, play catch, frisbee, eat great picnic food and generally have a great time. My parents would go for walks along the beach.

Fathers Day started out right. LG woke up at 7 a.m. and I fed him and stayed up with him prepping a chicken salad for the picnic, and collecting everything for our day on the beach. LB got up at 8 a.m. and we finished of Tom's card and I continued picnic prep. We had chicken salad to go on hamburger buns, cut up melon, grapes, chips, gingerale, water, juice, cookies, and pocky as well as formula and bottles.

By then it was 10 a.m. so LB hopped on the bed with the card for Tom and woke him up. LG woke up again at that time too, so we all wished him a Happy Fathers Day together. The card envelope was sealed by 4 of LB's little stickers, and as she was helping Tom open it, she peeled of a sticker and put it on Tom's nose. Then she peeled off another one and put it on LG's nose (he's so easy-going!), and then a third one on my nose, and Tom put the fourth one on LB's nose. :)

Then it was time for breakfast, which went over really well, starting with the coffee:And I definitely make a killer omelet. :)

We drove out to Tom's parents house to pick up our cooler, then it was on to the park. LB had her nap while we drove, which was PERFECT timing. As we drove into the park, a guy coming out passed us his parking ticket, which saved us $3.

All was going perfectly so far.

I'd been checking the weather earlier in the week, and the reports kept saying Sunday would be sunnier, so I chose that day for the picnic. But as we approached the park, the clouds got thicker and thicker.

There were two beaches at the park, and we decided to go to the farthest one--less people, more peaceful. So we packed all the stuff into LG's stroller and off we went. I didn't bring the Snugli which was a bummer because we totally could have used it.

Things went downhill from here--in short, the walk was long, the bugs totally freaked Lily out and the water level was high enough that when we finally got to where the beach should have been, it wasn't there anymore. We sat down and had a quick lunch, there were a fair amount of bugs so we ate and tried to keep the bugs away from Lily. Then we called it quits and walked quickly back to the car, giving up on our picnic altogether.

When we got to the car, I found out that we hadn't been totally successful in keeping the bugs away from Lily:Ouch!

Sigh. All that work for nothing.

Luckily Babcia & Dziadek were home, so we celebrated 2 Fathers at their place, relaxing in the backyard, and ended up having a really good time. Lily picked and ate lots of strawberries, and played soccer with Dziadek (video).
