The weather looked promising for our trip to Vancouver Island with Babcia, Dziadek, Wujek Daniel and Ciocia Natalya. Tom and I were up until 1:30 a.m. getting things ready, and then up at 5:30 a.m. to pack the car, get the kids up and make it to the ferry terminal in time to catch the 9:00 a.m. ferry. We made it, and the kids were in very good spirits considering we got them up an hour before the usually get up and then fired them into the car.
Everyone said "cheese!" as we waited in line to board the ferry:
Tom's family said they were catching the 7 a.m. ferry while we were catching the 9 a.m. one. But they called as we were about to board and asked which lane we were in, then we drove by them on our way on the ferry. It was really nice to have that extra time to spend with them, not to mention all the help with Lily and Lukasz.
The weather was gorgeous and windy on the ferry; I think Lily and Lukasz were pretty excited to be on their first boat ride.
The ferry ride was an hour and a half, the perfect length of time for exploring the ship and admiring all the scenery, without the kids getting antsy. Lily and Lukasz both napped during the short, 20-minute drive to Butchart Gardens; unfortunately, they woke up when we tried to move them into the double stroller. It didn't seem to affect their mood too much, they still walked/ran through the majority of the Gardens.
We stopped in the entrance pavilion to have lunch and change diapers. I was already amazed by how surrounded we were by flowers. Colour everywhere.
Our first stop was in an outdoor "room", the ceiling of which was covered in a huge variety of hanging baskets. We lifted Lily up so she could take a closer look and smell the flowers.
More photos to come!
