This morning Lily, Lukasz and I went to the library to stock up on books. They are both feeling a little under the weather (the first colds of fall... boo), so we are preparing for lots of quiet time, which is what they like best when they are sick. I found many books of single songs and nursery rhymes, like "I'm a Little Teapot", "Wee Willie Winkie" (Lily loves that one), "There's a Spider on the Floor" (Raffi), "Down at the Station", "If You're Happy and You Know it" and "The Wheels on the Bus". I was checking out books with paper pages, but Lukasz hasn't quite got the hang of being gentle with books yet, so we have to choose from the board books section. I like these books because they are short... when my throat is sore (which it is because I am sick, too, unfortunately) I don't mind reading a 20-second book 10 times.. but a 10 minute book... oh boy.
As we were driving home, Lily was singing "Baa, baa Black Sheep". She has the lyrics down now, but she used to sing, "Baa baa black sheep, heavy wool". :D Each time she finished singing, Lukasz would say "Again!" and Lily would oblige.
The drive only takes 5 minutes, but I wished it had been a bit longer. It was one of those times where I realize just how quickly their toddler days are going by, and I want to hang on to these moments of peace and happiness as long as I can.
